"Life is a series of experiences, each one of which makes us bigger, even though it is hard to realize this. For the world was built to develop character, and we must learn that the setbacks and grieves which we endure help us in our marching onward."

Lesson 6 - Early Morning Hyperglycemia

Lesson 1: Carbohydrate counting Lesson 2: The Insulin Pump Lesson 3: Diabetes and Coronary Artery Disease Lesson 4: Type 1 Diabetes Lesson 5: Type 2 Diabetes Lesson 6: Early Morning Hyperglycemia

Miss us? Well, worry no more . . . we're BACK with another worthwhile lesson.

See . . . learning can be fun!

As you may already be aware, hyperglycemia is defined as a blood glucose level higher than normal. For diabetics on conventional therapy, the normal target range is 60-130 dL either before meals or five to five hours after a meal, or less than 200 ml/dL one to two hours after a meal.

Many diabetics experience early morning hyperglycemia while they are asleep, which, if left untreated, can lead to more serious conditions.

Since there are several reasons why early morning hyperglycemia might occur, it is important to narrow down the specific cause and find the most suitable solution.

In this lesson, we'll tackle:

  • Waning or Insufficient Insulin Levels
  • The Somogyi Effect (Posthypoglycemic hyperglycemia)
  • Dawn Phenomenon
