Busting 0ther triggers: viral infections, exercise, and emotional stress
Treat viral infections, sinusitis, and gastroesophageal reflux immediately and get your flu vaccine every year to prevent escalated asthma symptoms.
If you have exercise-induced asthma, keep you inhaler handy, avoid very cold, dry air, and try to exercise in a warm, moist environment if possible. Swimming is a good exercise for asthmatics.
Consult with your allergist before taking aspirin, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as ibuprofen and beta-blockers. If you ever question a medication's effect on your asthma, consult a medical professional before taking it.
If you suspect a food allergy is aggravating your asthma, your allergist can help to determine which specific items are causing the reaction. There are many substitutes for common allergenic foods like milk, eggs, and wheat. Otherwise, allergenic foods must be avoided entirely.
Make adequate rest, exercise, nutrition, and relaxation a priority in your life and part of your normal routine. Emotional stress can wear you down and make asthma symptoms worse.
